How To Install Lori Single Cylinder Deadbolt | Mr. Locksmith New Westminster

How To Install Lori Single Cylinder Deadbolt | Mr. Locksmith New Westminster: Installing a Lori deadbolt. The Lori Deadbolt can be  a little bit confusing, because most deadbolts have the screws on the inside, so it’s pretty easy to figure out how to remove it, its double cylinders are a little different, so most of our Kwikset, Weiser, and Schlage deadbolts is pretty simple. You have a couple of screws, you take it out the traditional way. The Lori Deadbolts have a set screw hidden along the side of the bolt. You will need a 5/16-inch long-shaft Allen wrench to install or remove the set screws.

How To Install a Lori Single Cylinder Deadbolt

Tools to Install Lori Deadbolt

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 5/16-inch long-shaft Allen wrench
  1. Open the Door
  2. Detach the slide bolt faceplate from the door edge by removing the two flathead screws using a Phillips screwdriver.
  3. Remove the thumb latch assembly from the interior side of the door, if applicable, by removing the two screw bolts on either side of the latch handle, then pulling the assembly horizontally from the door.
  4. Slip the long shaft of a 5/16-inch Allen wrench into the space on either side of the slide bolt to engage in the cylinder set screws and turn the set screw counterclockwise two to three full turns to loosen. Repeat for the set screw on the other side of the slide bolt.
  5. Remove the deadbolt cylinders by turning the cylinders counterclockwise until the cylinder is free of the mortise housing. You can insert the deadbolt’s key into the cylinder for leverage in turning the cylinder. Repeat for the opposite side cylinder in double-keyed models.
  6. Pull the slide bolt assembly from the door edge, then remove the cylinder housing from the door hole.

Lori Single Cylinder Deadbolt

A couple of screws. You can see the screws, you can see how to take it apart. And everything apart. So that’s your traditional single cylinder deadbolt. Now I’ll show you the Lori. They’re made by a ilco, UniCan, kaba, whatever you want to call them this week. It’s not my favorite deadbolt. In the year, you know, 35 years ago, it was a good deadbolt and I’ll show you why, because we could make almost any cylinder fit this. So, and that’s why they’re confusing when you see this on the door. Sometimes they’ll say Lori, other times they’ll say, could be Schlage, could be kaba, could be medical. It could be almost any type of lock. And you’ll see why it’s confusing for Locksmiths and also beginner locksmiths, or just the home, do it yourself or try to take this Lori lock off the door. So this is the ilko Lori, pretty simple. It’s instructions. Now, you’ll see it’s already slightly different than our normal deadbolts. And what the important pieces on this is, it’s the Allen key. You needed a long reach Allen wrench or Allen key. What do you want to call it? The Allen wrench or Allen key is five 64 of an inch. So this is what you need. And this is what’s a real pain in the butt. And it has to be a longer one, the normal. So sometimes your little kits don’t have the reach for it. So that’s the most important thing to the installation of this lock. And we’ll just show you what we got here. Now, this is a single cylinder and it’s pretty basic stuff. What you have here is the housing and it’s pretty easy. It says right on there top, is there an inside and outside? Here’s the confusing part. It has the little set screws and you can’t really see it when you’re trying to take it off. But when we’re putting it in, it’s a little bit different. So to install it, we have the cylinder housing, make sure your set screws are flush. That makes it easier to do the install. Top there, just place it in there, take our dead bolt, basically going to feed it in there. This is the single cylinder deadbolt. So this is what comes in the kit. Now this is what gets a little confusing. These machine screws are for holding the thumb turn on, these ones in the bag here, are for holding the housing to the bolts. So we’ll take these out right now. So there we have, now the bolt is into the housing. So the next step is, we have to change, this is a mortis cam and they have to use the Adams right cam. Take it off, put it in, and make sure, you know, you get the right side down. This will set flush, and that’s another common mistake. People put these in. So again, just tight don’t over crank them. And they have to be flush. So we’ve got the Adam’s right cam on the boarder cylinder. Everything’s good, we got the right key. Okay, everything’s perfect. So the spacer goes on first, then our little springy cover. And what we have to do now, take the outside housing, and what we’re going to do, is we’re going to install it. It’s going to screw in similar to an Adam’s rights storefront. But we’re going to screw the mortar cylinder in here. And again, don’t cross thread it. It’s pretty easy to cross thread. And I take the key out a little bit and gently get it snug. We have the mortar cylinder in the outside. Now I’m going to install the thumb turn on the inside. Other screws. Again, don’t force anything. You’ll cross thread the heck out of everything. So again, just do it snug, double check it, and check this. Now what we have to do to make sure, make sure that’s vertical. Now this is the confusing part. You can take your Allen wrench 564s. It has to be long. Now this is the difficult part for most people. You have to get it right in there, and just sort of wiggle it a little bit, and then you get in the set screw. Right to tighten, and again, snug not crazy, so we know we’re in, pull it out. Try that. Yeah, we obviously didn’t, I think we’re, I got to go in a little bit tighter. Cause see how it’s binding a little bit there, right there. We’re either binding on the, I think we’re binding on the set screws. You’d have to back it off or put it in. So let’s just snug. Now it’s a lot better. So just check by putting your, lock it, take the key out, unlock it, take the key out, one more check on the inside. Now we don’t have to do the set screw there because it’s a single cylinder, and these are held into the housing, these two screws. So we don’t have to set the screw there. The cover plate. Make sure it works. Don’t over-tighten these, if you over-tighten it, you’re going to find the bolt won’t open and close properly. There we go. Pretty simple. The advantage of this lock in the old days, again, I am not a fan of it right now, we run across a lot of them, is I can put any mortar cylinder with the Adam’s right cam in here. So I can put in anything. I can put it in a high security, any mortar cylinder lock, or any brand lock, any brand name will screw into that, and you can key it up to anything. So it’s a very versatile. In the old days it was versatile because we didn’t have too much choice. And now we have so many choices right now. As you know my favorite is the, take the Schlage, the B 660s or the 560s, or even the the end series, the new ones, the 60 ends. I can put the kick cylinder, we call them kicks owners. So it’s a cylinder we can put in. But we’re talking about this lock today. So this is the Lori Kaba. In its day it was versatile, but we run across a lot of these and some customers still have them, and some commercial buildings have boxes of these things. So we’re still installing them. They’re okay, I’m not a fan of them. I find them, if they’re exposed to weather, that little set screw rust up and the inside rust up. Again, not my favorite lock. It’s not that cheap either, but we run across them. So this is the Ilco, Lori, Kaba style deadbolt. It’s mostly called the Lori single cylinder deadbolt. Hope you enjoyed the video. Good luck when you run across these. Okay, have a good day. I hope you enjoyed watching this video. At Mr. Locksmith Training we will be testing this key machine and will post lots of videos soon. I will cut and decode and cut by code Automotive Keys, Motorcycle, Tibbe, Tubular, Standard Domestic keys and even test the engraving function. Then we will install it in an Automotive Locksmith Service Truck for the ultimate testing.

Decode a Ford Ranger Key. On the screen go to “automotive,” Scroll down. It’s an eight-cut Ford Ranger, 1996 to 2012, select the codes, Hit decode. Insert the key in the vice and use the tip stop of the middle line to line the tip. It’s an eight-cut.  When it is decoded, we enter it into our lock codes and it came up a valid code. Insert the new key black and cut the key.  And let’s go test it. Put the key in as we just cut it fresh. Works perfectly.

My Favourite Electronic Deadbolts | Mr. Locksmith New Westminster

My Favourite Electronic Deadbolts New Westminster: My three favorite electronic deadbolts at the moment are the Schlage BE-365, Schlage Sense and the Schlage Encode.

Mr. Locksmith New Westminster: (604) 259-2522

Schlage BE365 Deadbolt

It’s mechanical, very simple, electrical mechanical, very very simple, 19 user codes but no Bluetooth, no Wi-Fi, no audit trail. Just simple, easy to use, reliable.

Schlage BE365 Features – Codes: 2 pre-set unique 4-digit access codes, storage of up to 19 access codes – Applications: Residential single and multi-family doors  – Battery: Uses 1 9V battery  – Keying: 5-pin tumbler Schlage C keyway over-ride They are just heavy-duty, they last. So this is a very simple one.

In this video, we are going to unbox a Schlage BE365, set it up and program it. Also, demonstrate how to open the lock with a key, everything on this deadbolt. I really like it. It’s simple. It’s basic. A workhorse. It does the trick.

Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt

The Schlage Sense was the one I have on my house. Well, it was, it still is. It’s a great lock. You can use it, it has built-in Bluetooth. I can, the free app that comes with it, I can see an audit trail. I can program it, but it’s Bluetooth. So I don’t have the ability to see. Once I leave the house, I cannot, unless you got Apple, but that’s another whole system.

It works with my Alexa. It works with Google. I test them all with, at my home system, I got Alexa, Google and Apple, and a few others I’m playing with. And this will work with ’em all, through the Bluetooth. So the Sense is upgradable.

If you get a Wi-Fi adapter, you can plug this in close to the unit. And now I can put this right in through my home Wi-Fi system, my router, and then wherever I am that has internet in the world, cellular internet, I can see what’s going on.

Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt. It makes getting in the door as easy as entering an access code on a touchscreen or using your smartphone to unlock the door before you even get out of the car. And that’s only the beginning of what keyless entry can do for you when it comes to both security and convenience.

Schlage Encode Smart Deadbolt

The newest product they have is the Schlage Encode. It’s great, it’s built-in Wi-Fi, built-in Bluetooth. The app is similar, and it’s fantastic. This one can do a hundred users. I would never use a hundred users in a million years.

And as a little bit of a secret, we have used these on light commercial. It’s not recommended for light commercial, but it’s that reliable that we’ve been able to put this on some commercial applications. Very light duty, but it does work quite well. We prefer the more commercial grade stuff, but it does work.

This Encode, built-in Wi-Fi, built-in Bluetooth, automatically locking if you want that option.

Schlage Encode Review

In this video I am going to review the Schlage Encode Deadbolt

I am going to install and review the Schlage Encode. The Schlage Encode is one of my favorite electronic deadbolts for customers who want to integrate into their home automation. The earlier version is the Schlage Sense, which they still sell, but the Sense and some of the other options just have Bluetooth or Z-wave, etc. The Schlage Encode is really interesting because they have integrated both Bluetooth and  Wi-Fi into the Electronic Deadbolt. The Schlage Sense could be upgraded it purchasing a Wi-Fi little plug it in.

I like the Sense but if you want total home integration, with home automation, WiFi, etc. the Encode has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The Schlage is using encrypted Bluetooth.

When you hear about problems people have with their video doorbells being hacked or their baby monitors hacked, that is because they are just using plain-Jane unencrypted Bluetooth.

Schlage Encode Smart WiFi Deadbolt

It not encrypted. So you gotta be really, really careful with a lot of your products for home because it can be easily hacked. So this one is encrypted Bluetooth. It goes into your Wi-Fi system, so it works great, and it does 100 codes. The new feature, I haven’t tried it yet, but you have a code that will only work at certain times of the day. So if you have a caregiver or nanny or housekeeper coming over, they can use their code only on certain dates and times. I don’t know yet. We’ll find out if they have a one-time use code. So you use the code.

Schlage Encode Smart Review

It’s good for an hour, or it’s good for one use only, which is good for Airbnbs. But I’m finding we’re selling a lot of these, and we’re installing a lot of these. Now when you buy it, I went down and got this at one of the big box hardware stores, make sure they’re sealed. They’re a pain in the butt, if somebody has been playing with these before you. They either work out of the box, or they’re not.

The same thing with the Wi-Fi, it either works right away, or you’re spending hours getting it working. So most of the time I find, because the app is so good on this, it’s a free app as well. It’s so fantastic. Once you’ve got the talking to the Bluetooth, it’s great. But again, with all of this stuff, it’s like an iPhone. Either it works, or it doesn’t work. So here we go, Schlage Encode.

Now everything nowadays packed so nice. So we have our instructions. We have the outside. Now it’s not a true touchscreen. It’s actually better. The touchscreens are good, except if you live in a really cold climate and your fingers are cold, it’s hard to get the touchscreens to work. So this is actually a pretty efficient system. It’s got the, ooh, here we go, the key override, which I really like.

We’ve had so many problems with customers, and you see one of my earlier videos, where you have the external battery. So if the battery goes dead, you have the external battery connections. I’m finding them not working like crazy. So I thought it was me with bad batteries. And you look at my other videos. We even tried to make a little a booster to get them, and they just don’t seem to work. But we’ll play with more later. What they’ve done on this, which is interesting.

Here’s the inside.

And it comes with batteries. It’s such a pain, when you pay good money for something, and there are no batteries. What does it take to throw in some free batteries? It’s got one key. This always bugs me. Why can’t you put two keys? We’ll cut lots of extra keys for our customers, but it comes with one key. I don’t like that. And know the difference between the machine screws and wood screws. That’s important on all this stuff.

The Schlage Encode Deadbolt is well made and reliable. It comes with different plates, so it’ll work, and a drive-in, so it works almost any door. Now I go through this a lot, every time, but it’s one of the biggest calls we get from customers at night. This is the bolt. It says TOP, so that makes it even easier.

If you have some other different ones, they may not have TOP on it but what they have on it, I call it Mickey Mouse ears. It’s not so big on this one, but the holes are slightly higher than the middle slot, so the slot where your tailpiece goes in, from your lock. They’re adjustable. From the edge of the door to the center hole, there are three sizes, and two are very popular.

There’s 2 3/8 and 2 3/4, and there’s a 5 inch. As far as I know, this does not come with a 5-inch backset. So I have 2 3/8, and it’s just a simple twist, and that’s 2 3/4. So it’s just slightly longer. Got a lot of calls from people saying, oh, it’s not installing correctly. So all you gotta do to adjust this is, this one is just a little twist or read the instructions. So pretty, pretty basic here. And you can see if I put this one in 2 3/8, it’s just too short. So we’ll go a little twist. And again, which way is up?

Now the other feature I like about these guys is they’ll put in, we call it, a hardened strike with three-inch wood screws. Now, this is really good, ’cause it goes in the frame, the edge of your door, so the frame, and your deadbolt will go into this. So it makes it that little bit, way, way stronger. So it’s good out of the box. If you look into my other videos, I actually prefer a longer, an 18-inch strike with 3-inch screws, where four go down it, just to make it tougher all the way down, but this is good out of the box. It is way better than what a lot of the other companies give you.

So this is fantastic, and I’m glad they’re still putting it in. Other deadbolts, they’ve stopped giving this. This is a great option. Let’s do it, let’s install this on the door quickly. We’re just going over here. Now you just got to do these snug. You don’t have to go crazy, don’t. Sometimes, people just crank these down, and it puts too much pressure on the bolt, and the bolt won’t come up. Now let’s show you real quick something, a programming code and an A user and a B user.

It’s on your instructions. It’s also on the lock. Now it used to be on the outside, which people, to look at the programming code, you had to disassemble everything. I don’t really like this. The programming code and the user code is now on the inside.

So in theory, somebody could just take it off, and they now know your programming code, your A user and B user. Now you can also, through programming, you can wipe out this and put it in your own programming code and your A user and B user. It’s a little bit of whatever. I don’t like this. I prefer the information that used to be on there. And they just started doing this lately. And your battery pack goes in there. And it’s really interesting. You’re really good because now, you don’t have to hook up the little cable. The more little hookups you have to do, the more chance you have of error.

Schlage encode battery replacement

Schlage Encode Deadbolt uses four double-A batteries. I always like alkaline, and it comes with alkaline batteries. I prefer the Duracells or the… Ah, it’s just the ones I prefer. Your best bet, buy it at like your Costco or your Walmart because you want fresh batteries. When you’re replacing these, you want fresh batteries. You don’t want something that’s been sitting in your local convenience store for a year. And that’s another problem we have with customers.

We go out there, and they’ve got problems. They buy the bad batteries, put them in, and it’s a battery issue. A lot of problems with these locks are with the battery. Again, get alkalines. I’m gonna try rechargeables. I haven’t done that yet. And they recommend don’t use rechargeables. I don’t see why not. So I’m gonna do an experiment on my door. So you want alkalines. Lithium’s lasts a long time, except for one problem. When the alkalines go down in power, they slowly drop, drop, drop.

When they reach a certain point, they’ll start beeping, just like your smoke detector at home. It just beeps. It bugs you. And I gotta replace the battery, plus it gives you all sorts of warning bells and everything. If you put in lithium batteries, really cool, they last a long time. You’ve got lots, really, really, really strong, and then boom, they just drop. So you get like a half a beep out of your lock. Beep, and that’s it. It’s dead. So all of a sudden, you’re stuck outside. But that’s why we have the key override, just in case.

Schlage Encode Installation

Let’s install this. Now a nice little feature, always make sure you put, the cable goes under, and the tailpiece is horizontal. If I’m playing with deadbolts, I always say have the bolt out. However, on the electronic locks, they have to time themselves for a left-hand or right-hand door, or however your door operates. You have to have the bolt in. And when you first start it up and punch in your first code, it’ll go through a cycle, and it decides if it’s a right-hand or a left-hand, which is really good, ’cause some of the old locks, you had to play with diodes and whatnot, little jumper switches, so this is a pretty idiot-proof.

If you do run across a problem, and it doesn’t seem to be working, follow the instructions and reset everything, just set everything back to factory, and follow through on the installation again. We don’t find that happens too much, but it does happen. So the battery cable goes underneath. The tailpiece goes in. Ta-da! So this is really good. Before it’d be sort of hanging around. If everything is perfect, it will clip in and stay there.

If your hole is perfect, everything’s perfect, it should be a 2 1/8 inch hole and a 1 inch bore. You can get away with 7/8, but 1 inch. So that clips in really nice. So it just holds it, saves us a little bit of time. I’ve always loved about these guys their products. We have right there. We have: Top. And on this side, we have: This side against the door. So it’s, basically, it’s almost idiot-proof, so follow the instructions. Top, there. They’ve really thought it out quite well. So that goes underneath.

This just goes on there. Let’s try this again. There we go. We have our cable there. Clips in. A little tiny spot to sort of put the cabling. Sometimes, you got to time this here, a little bit. This thumb turn will go on to the tailpiece. Should be free. Now that’s what I like about this lock, too. The other ones, you’re pushing a motor. So I always think that’s not too good. So again, put your machine screws in here. Don’t use the wood screws. There we go. Pretty simple.

Let’s put the batteries in. Now this is good, no cable, no nothing, just kinda pull it out. Four AAs. It goes on there. We have power. Now it has to sort of go through a cycle. So right on here, five, seven, four, three. So I’m gonna go, I want to see what I got here, so that I can see. Five, seven, four, three. So that’s the user code. It’s now, in theory, it’s setting itself. And we got the blue tick, so we’re good. So let’s see if we can lock it. Now this one’s interesting. You don’t hit the logo. You learn after bit, just hit the lower corner to lock it, boom. I want to unlock it.

I gotta hit the code in. So when I go, so we’ve timed it. Lock it. Five, seven, four, three. Five, seven, four, three. So it’s really good. It’s very simple, easy to use. We can change our features. One of my favorite features is I like it to lock automatically. So I like it locking automatically. Some people go, oh, I don’t like that feature. I love it.

If you’ve got kids, whatever, or you’re just, did I locked the door, the door locks itself. So I have mine set on four minutes. It only goes, I wish it was longer, though, but it goes from 30 seconds to four minutes.

Schlage Encode Home Automation

The Schlage is compatible with Alexa, Google, and Apple. So it’s compatible with the major systems. And if you’ve see the announcement, now, the big manufacturers say they’re gonna go more open architecture, so you don’t have to stick with all Google products to go with Google, or Alexa products to go with Alexa. So you can mix and match now. And it’s going more open concept. I liked that idea.

We’re okay with the Schlage, but you got to be careful with some of the other products. You can say, yell at the door, or open door, or open front door, and, well, you say, Alexa, open front door, and then some of these locks will open. By default, you can’t do that. And some of these, you can’t do it at all, but you can say lock door. It’s built-in Wi-Fi. Now it will use the batteries up more. There’s no doubt about that.

They say six months of normal use, because Wi-Fi really sucks batteries. The Bluetooth can go for a year easily, or the Z-waves and whatnot. The built-in Wi-Fi, you’re gonna go through batteries. It’s just a fact of life. You should get six months out of it. Some people get more. Some people will get less. Now this one’s very simple. The key override is easy. If it’s locked, just take your key. It’s really normal. It just unlocked the door. You can even lock it and leave.

If you looked at earlier version BE-365, oh, it’s a pain in the butt. I made a video of just how to lock it and unlock it. You don’t need that with this. You just, very simple, it’s easy to turn. You’re not turning the whole mechanism.

If you wanna rekey it, or you’ve you’ve just got a new house or something, you don’t know where the keys are, or somebody got your keys, or you’ve have lost it, very simple to rekey. Just disconnect the power, first, and again, I love this, no extra little wires and whatnot.

Just take off the two machine screws. So you disconnect, let’s get these screws, oops, so we don’t lose ’em. Remove the two screws. And carefully feed the data cable, you don’t want to tear that off, even though it is pretty well-made. From the outside, we just pull it off. And there’s no reason to pull, the old versions, you had to pull everything apart.

Schlage Encode Rekey

Rekey Locks: All you have to do is just take out that one screw. The cylinder will come out. The screw, it’s a very simple screw, and our cylinder, it just removes it. Now it’s a five-pin plug. So you can’t put a six-pin keyway on it. It’s a Schlage SC1 or the C Keyway. Very, very simple, all you gotta do, really, you have to depress the retainer pin and unscrew it. I got lots of videos on how to rekey it, very simple, easy, not tough. And so you can see right there, all we have to do is put it in, and tighten up the screw again.

Again. And there we go, nice and tight. It’s in there. I upgrade it with a drill-resistant, pick-resistant lock. I like the Primus High Security Cylinder. It goes in here nicely, but it’s a modification. It’s not really meant to have that happen, but a slight modification, and I can upgrade the cylinder. It’s a good cylinder. It’s well-made. It’s not impossible to pick, but we can’t go into pick-resistance, but I have videos on how to pick ’em, rekey them, pick them, and the upgrade that I do to mine.

Now you don’t have to do this. I just like to do it. Some people, if you want to match it to other locks in your house, or you want to go high security, I change the cylinder. So to reinstall, this is exactly the way we took it off. And a nice feature just clips in. Make sure our data cable, you always gotta make sure you don’t crimp these. Hook up the data cable. Try to do this for the camera. See, there’s a little bit of a recess in there, so we can put our cabling in there. This just goes in nicely, and you give it a little check before we throw the machine screws in here. Reinstall the battery pack, no extra wires to hook up. Boom, check it, always check your key.

It’s all happy it’s got batteries. And the key works perfect. Always make sure you can put the key in, lock it, and remove the key, and make sure we can unlock it and remove the key. Then you know it’s all timed perfectly. Let’s lock it, we’re going away. Everything’s happy. The Schlage Encode is a fantastic system, and they’ve made it even better. All you have to do is remove the inside cover, and the battery pack just pulls out.

There are no wires to disconnect or anything. It just slips in. It’s got contacts at the bottom. So just pull it out. Your batteries just pull out extremely easy. It takes four double-A batteries. And again, just follow the instructions, put ’em in. We are finding that the Encode, because it has Wi-Fi, it is using batteries more. They seem to last about six months. That’s ’cause the Wi-Fi uses a lot of battery power. That’s all it is, just pull it out, put it back in, put the cover on, and you’re in business.

It says everything’s fine. It’s all happy. Put in alkaline, you put in four double-A batteries, alkaline. Do not use lithium, because the alkalines will give you a warning beep. The lithium will just give you one beep, and that’s it. The batteries are dead. So the differences between, the alkaline will slowly reduce power, and then they’ll give you a lots of little warning beeps, before they go dead, where the lithiums just give one beep, usually, and then it’s dead. So they keep peak power, and then they just died. So put in alkalines.

I am gonna run some rechargeable batteries. They say don’t put in rechargeable batteries. I don’t know why not, so I am going to test rechargeable batteries and let’s see what happens.

Schlage Encode vs Schlage Encode

So what’s better, the Schlage Sense or the Schlage Encode? They’re both fantastic electronic deadbolts, and they’re both similar with slight differences. In this configuration, it has Bluetooth only. And the Encode has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi built-in. So that’s what it boils down to, right now, what applications you want. Now if you have existing Schlage Senses, just go pick up the adapter. It’s a Wi-Fi adapter, so this lock has the same capabilities, almost, as this one. This one’s limited. This one has 100 user codes.

I can’t remember exactly, 30 or 40 user codes. And this, the Encode, has a little bit more options on, I don’t know if it’s backward-compatible to this, right now, but we have a few more functions on this for, yeah, I can have a code that’s only valid Mondays, between eight and nine, or something like that, which is great. If you got housekeepers, or you got caregivers looking after your parents, these locks are excellent. This one’s just, right now, it comes with all the bells and whistles. They’re both highly recommended, and you can have this one, just with the Bluetooth, with the app.

You don’t even need the app for either ones of these, but it’s basically, you’re paying money. Use the app, the app is simple, works on your Android phone, works on your Apple phone, iPhone. The Bluetooth on this is very powerful, audit trail, change your users, add your users, not as a powerful, at the moment, as the Encode has a lot more bells and whistles, but they’re both fantastic. So you’re good with both. Just depends what application you wanna have.

And remember, they’re both compatible with the major systems, for the Alexa, Google, and Apple, and some of the new stuff coming out, and other systems. So you’re good getting either/or. These are my favorite electronic deadbolts, at the moment. In conclusion, I love this deadbolt. The Encode is great, built-in Wi-Fi, built-in Bluetooth, free app, powerful app, 100 user codes, self-locking, I love that, or you can turn it off and don’t it self-lock, and an audit trail, and now I can schedule, if I got a housekeeper or, a lot of caregivers now, people are buying these for their parents, easy to use, and the caregivers, you can put them on a schedule, when they can come and go, and you also have an audit trail.

You can also have, every time it’s opened or only on certain times, you can have your app will tell you when the door is opened, locked, who’s coming and who’s left. It’s good for kids, knowing what time they came home. You don’t know what time they left, but you know what time they came home. So I love it. It’s a great lock. I highly recommend it. In conclusion, the Schlage Encode is a great lock.

Sending a locksmith the picture of a key can help us identify the key or lock. This may seem like a silly video, but it’s actually very important. I made the “How to Take a Picture of a Key” to help our customers.

  1. Take an in-focus picture of the key.
  2. Take a picture of both sides of the key.
  3. Remove any tape or obstruction covering the head of the key.
  4. If possible a picture of the end of the key.
  5. In-focus pictures of the key.

Key Copy Near Me

A lot of times customers ask Where can I get a “key copy near me’”  “I need my locks rekeyed.” or “Duplicate Key” and then they try to describe it to me. Sometimes they can, sometimes they can’t, sometimes there’s no information that you can see, but I can see. So, a lot of times we ask our customers “Take a picture, take an in-focus picture of the key.” So we ask our customers, email or just text me, a picture of your key. So this is how to take a picture of your key so I can see what you have. You gotta take both sides of the key. So take a picture there, so I can see what the make is, I can look at some of the grooves and then turn the key over and take a picture again, and then I can see from the other side I know it’s a Schlage, and on this I can see it’s a C123. So I can tell you “Yes I have that key.” So whatever key you have, whether it’s a car key, or house key, motorcycle, whatever, in focus, both sides of the key, then you can email it to me or a locksmith and we can tell you if we have that key.

Sometimes we’ve had people on fishing expeditions up north, they’ve taken their keys with them they’re in the middle up north, in the middle of nowhere, the wife is locked out, they have the key, and this one, we can actually see this one has a code, so we now know we can cut that by code and we can get that person in the house really quick and easy.

In conclusion, silly as it sounds “how to take a picture of a key”, in focus, both sides of the key, text or email, then we can tell you what you have. [email protected]

How To Fix a Sticky Lock New Westminster

How To Fix a Sticky Lock New Westminster: If you have a sticky lock, whether it’s on your house, your business, a padlock, or your car door, a car ignition is different, if you have a sticky lock, there is a couple of solutions you can do.

Never, never put oil, or linseed oil, or motor oil, or sewing machine oil, or even graphite. Graphite, do not put that into your lock. Now, WD-40 is penetrating oil. It’s fantastic for getting a sticky lock unstuck but is not a lubricant.

My favorite for a lock is Tri-Flow, just love this stuff. Put a little spray, it does not take a lot, just put a little spray into your lock and it will be fantastic. Or now you know Lock Saver, there’s Houdini. I don’t have any Houdini handy, but this is my go-to is Tri-Flow. So again, WD-40 for sticky locks. It will unstick it, but it’s not gonna lubricate it. Tri-Flow will lubricate the lock perfectly.

Do not use graphite, graphite is bad for you. It’s not good for the locks. It’s an old way of lubricating locks, don’t do it. So go to Tri-Flow. If the lubricant does not work, it could because your key is old and worn, especially on cars we find that a lot. So cutting you a brand new key to factory code, the lock usually works perfectly after that. So it could be a worn key. Your lock could be worn and the lubricant may be a temporary fix, but it is not going to fix the problem. You have an old lock on your door or the padlock’s old, it’s worn out, you need a new lock. And sometimes, especially with the Honda ignitions, the high security, sometimes the ignition needs to be, the parts, replaced, and you would need a new key because those things just seem to wear out.

How to Fix a Sticky lock

How to Fix a Sticky lock New Westminster

The other issue could be that the door is sticking. So it could be the hinges are dropping, or what really happens, with the change of weather, is the latch, or the deadbolt specifically, is not lined up anymore with the hole. So I have a few more videos on how to fix that. But the way to see if it is the problem is the door frame is open the door and does the key work the lock perfectly? So if the door is open and you can turn the lock perfectly and then when you close the door and it does not lock, then the problem is with your door frame. However, if you open the door, try the key, and it’s still jammed, then the problem is your door.

Locked Out because of a Sticky Lock?

In conclusion, do not use WD-40, oil, linseed oil and do not use sewing machine oil. WD-40 is, a penetrating oil, it’s good but it is not going to lubricate your lock. Use a Lubricant that is meant for locks, Tri-Flow is my favorite. Lock Saver and Houdini are good.

If you have any recommendations, put it at the bottom. So this will help you with sticky locks.

Rekey Old Style Weiser Locks Key in Knobs | New Westminster

Rekey Old Style Weiser Locks Key in Knobs New Westminster

Rekey Old Style Weiser Locks Mr. Locksmith New Westminster (604) 259-2522

Lots of these Rekey old style Weiser Locks Key-in-Knobs still in use. Rekeying Locks

Rekey Old Style Weiser Locks Key-in-knobs where extremely popular long, long time ago, it was everywhere in North America. Nowadays we see less and less of them, but it’s still important to know how to rekey it. One of the key parts is identifying it. Basically, it could be a knob like that, different colors, it could be an orbit, circular, just different styles of the rose and how the lock comes out. Now one way of identifying it was, a lot of them have the push and turn lock. So on the inside to lock it, you just push and turn, and then when the key goes in, here, you turn the key, it just turns a little bit. It just pops it out and then the lock is unlocked.

Now one of the big problems of Rekey Old Style Weiser Key in Knobs is when this handle gets old, it just stays in, so the customer’s turning the key, and the key turns but the lock won’t come undone. That’s another issue, on how to get through that, but right now we’re just going to show you how to rekey them. So to rekey the lock is quite simple, there are just two small screws on here. Go ahead and take the knob off. Just loosen it a little bit, loosen the other one. You have to come in on an angle to get it out. I had somebody ask me once, “Do you have a screwdriver that will do this easier?” And I’m going, no, this is the way it is, unfortunately. Again, the brand name is Weiser, they never, we see a lot of Weiser locks now which are actually Kwikset locks, this was never part of Kwikset, so it only says Weiser, Weiser locks. It takes the Weiser key, in a pinch, you shouldn’t do it, but in a pinch you can use a Kwikset key, but that’s not proper. So basically the knob was just lock-in, and what always happens is that little spring in there would just wear out. Now they used to sell a kit, extra springs, but that was back in the day when you did a lot of repairs, and the people would replace the spring. So the lock is very simple. Take it out; now another way of identifying this, how to take it apart, is there are no holes anywhere, to press the retainer in to remove this cylinder, or the knob. In the back here, see how it’s springy? What we have to do to remove this, we have to hold this out, and then, you see when it was locked, the key only turns that far, to unlock the door. When we wanna rekey it, we pull out the rear post, and at basically the five o’clock, 10 to five position, and it just comes out. And you can see here we can take our bible, to put it back together again, we have our bible, we have the little slot there in the knob, so we’ll put it back at 10 to five, that’s the time I call it, hold out the little post again, and you put it in at 10 to five, and basically put it back in. Sometimes it can be sticky, but the biggest problem is just pulling that out, turn it, boom. If you don’t have a key, now it gets a little bit more difficult, but again, it’s a Weiser, it’s extremely easy to pick, just pick it to that position, just pick it over, just hold the post out, pick it to the 10 to five position, and sometimes you can push on this a little bit and it will push out the cylinder. Now to rekey it is interesting. Now if you don’t have the key, if you have a key you can take it apart, but if you don’t have a key you have to shim it, and again, it’s a Weiser, it’s easy to pick, easy to shim. So we got the cylinder, so to take out the plug, got the little circlip, and I love this, this is Snap-on, it lasts me forever, and if it breaks they give me a new one. Just gently, just open it up just that little bit. Insert your key, turn it slightly, I have an HPC, hollow follower, just fits on there really nice. And it’s five pins. And we have done enough rekeying videos, this one’s lucky, it’s got the, got the code on there, it’s a direct code. We can just pin it up with the lab kit, and then when you put it back in, just make sure you put it on a slight angle and just put the plug back into the cylinder. Take out the key. I am doing this for the camera, but it’s best to put it on your desk flat. I got my little Snap-on tool. Again, don’t go crazy on opening this, and just put it back on. Always test, test, test. Sounds perfect, clips on good. Now I put it in the 10 to five position. Put my bible into the little spot there. And give it a little twist to make sure that the little post has engaged the back of the lock. So again, there are some different methods, this is the simplest, pull out the post, hold it, some people put a pair of pliers on the back, turn it, now this one did come out extremely easy, let me show you a tougher one here. So that one’s really easy. Here’s another one, this is a real old one I got kicking around. Old one with a new insert. How does this one? See, this one’s not coming out so easy. So again, I’ll just push on the post a little bit, there we go. So basically I’m just pushing on that, and it just pushes it out. So this one’s a little bit more awkward and tougher. And it goes in okay. Rekey Old Style Weiser Key in Knobs. Still see them out there, and you could also see different colors and a different knob style, but again, the secret is it’s got the post on the back.

During the Pandemic Lockdown, we had so many break-ins on apartment buildings. They’re stealing the mail, they’re after the GST, they’re after the checks, they’re after whatever checks are coming in. We know for the next several months there’s gonna be a lot of people getting checks, so all the mailboxes getting broken into, we’ve secured this door better. It’s with an astragal. It will stop them from prying. They got the cameras have caught the people. Not caught, they videoed them breaking in. They’re just using little pry bars. They’re spreading the door. With the security plate, it stops them from spreading the door. So, it’s called an astragal or a security plate, whatever you want. This is made out of steel, it is a full length, and it slows them down from prying open the door.

Mr. Locksmith New Westminster (604) 259-2522

We have had so many break-ins on apartment buildings that are stealing the mail. The criminal are after the GST cheques and trying to steal ID. We know for the next several months, there is going to be a lot of people getting checks, so all the mailboxes are getting broken into. We have secured this door better. It’s with Astragal Security Plate. It will prevent the criminals from prying the gap between the doors. The security camera has caught people on video, not caught, they video them breaking in. They are just using little pry bars they’re spreading the door. With these security plates, it stops them from spreading the door. It is called an Astragal or called a security plate, whatever you want. This is made out of steel. It’s a full length, and it slows them down from prying open the door. This is a typical apartment building and we have a rash, always a rash of break-ins.

To install the Astragal / Security Plate we are going remove all the hardware, and install a full-length Astragal. Remove all the existing hard, door push plates, bars and on some install we remove the lock too. This door has an electronic access control system so we are not reinstalling the door cylinder and in this case they only had a dummy cylinder. I like to install the top of the security plate and let gravity help to line up and mark the holes. I prefer to use sex bolts because it makes a nice flush mount. Do not use pop rivets to secure the plate to the door.
